Research

It is TERF’s vision that Participation of the Public in Conservation of Thai Elephants is a key element to be considered in any serious and long term conservation effort towards both wild and domesticated populations of Asian Elephants.

Research is a key factor towards this, as it is only through constant gathering and sharing of knowledge on elephants that awareness raising efforts can assure long term results among all individuals of society.

New "Elephant Law"

It is TERF’s vision that Policy Implementation through a New Thai Elephant Law is a key element to be considered in any serious and long term conservation effort towards both wild and domesticated populations of Asian Elephants.

Hence, TERF’s Strategic Planning considers it one of its three basic pillars of action and draws twenty years ahead of now a reality in which Thai Elephant Law becomes an example for other Asian countries in their Asian Elephant Specie Conservation and Environment Policies Implementation.

This will happen through the Consultation of different groups involved with Thai Wild and Domestic Elephants’ Conservation and elaboration of a new Elephant Law.

A “New Thai Elephant Law” will become reality through a full implementation with support of both public and private sector, and with recognition from all levels of Thailand’s society, and TERF will be an important part of this process, acting mainly through its Research Department, supporting researchers interested in deepening knowledge on Thai Elephants’ ecological, social and historical importance.

Therefore it is TERF's New Elephant Law Project's mission to bring together stakeholders to push forward an open discussion for the development for a chart for a New Elephant Law to be introduced to Thai Law Makers, following TERF’s line of strategy of Change in Policy. Among our objectives and target accomplishments we highlight:

  • To coordinate Seminars and Panel Discussion as a way to push forward an open discussion for the development for a chart for a New “Elephant Law” and highlight the urgency of the Change in Policy towards Thai Elephants.
  • To compile seminars’ results and progress discussions occurred during Seminars and Panel Discussion, guaranteeing an open and inclusive participation of all stakeholders.
